Hashtags and Holidays — Live Them, Learn Them, Love Them

#NationalMenMakeDinnerDay, #NationalStressAwarenessDay, #WorldVeganMonth – these are hashtags you have probably noticed on social media just this week alone. There are more “holidays” coming up that you probably have not heard of either, including #NationalCakeDay on November 26. Let’s not even get into the traditional holidays that also get their own hashtags, including #Thanksgiving!
As dubious as some of these hashtagged holidays sound, they can actually be terrific for your business’ social media presence. These hashtags are often among the top trending news topics on their respective days. They can post pictures of cake and revel in the supposed #NationalCakeDay. They can also mock the day and wonder why it is even necessary to have a day that celebrates cake. Regardless of whether they are celebrating or ridiculing, they are talking about and reading posts with these particular hashtags. An easy way for a business to get noticed on social media platforms is to incorporate these hashtags and days into their posts. Just take a look at our tweet from yesterday for #NationalStressAwarenessDay. In only a day, our tweet got 488 impressions just because we piggybacked on a top trending story that day. Do enough of these, and they will add up and help you receive thousands of impressions a month.
The next time you see a silly hashtag celebrating something like #NationalDoughnutDay, do not ignore it. Use it to your advantage, and you can build your social media audience.
