Today is Flashback Friday, and we want to share some movie history you may have forgotten. On December 4, 1998, Universal released Gus Van Sant’s Psycho remake, starring Vince Vaughn, Julianne Moore, Viggo Mortensen, William H. Macy, and Anne Heche. It was a nearly shot-for-shot remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece, except set in the then-modern day and with more violence and sexual situations. The Psycho remake failed at the box office and critically, but its trailer does illustrate some interesting marketing touches. How do you market a movie that essentially many moviegoers had already seen? The Psycho trailer definitely looks like it came from the late ’90s, so it is a fun minute-and-a-half back in time!
